Q. Is there a fee to join?

No. Membership in YPTP is free for customers.

Q. Why should I use an online plumber referral service?

After decades in the plumbing business, we know that hiring a plumbing contractor can be a less than satisfying experience. Consumers can feel intimidated. Plumbers can be flaky or even unscrupulous.

You Pick the Plumber levels the playing field for both consumers and plumbers. For customers, the main benefit of YPTP is getting a qualified, licensed and bonded contractor. With YPTP you always get the best price, because our plumbers know the bidding process is open.

Perhaps more important, plumbers bid based solely on the information you provide about the job. Because the bidding is done online, bidders do not see your neighborhood, your house, your age or your sex. Sad to say, some contractors have been known to up-charge customers based on demographic information that has nothing to do with the work to be performed. YPTP eliminates that possibility.

Q. How is You Pick the Plumber different from other referral services?

The primary difference is that YPTP is a free online referral service. There is no advertising on our site. All plumber listings are on the same level. All plumber partners have an equal opportunity to bid on business within their geographic area. There is no preferential treatment for ''advertisers'' vs. ''listing only'' plumbers.

The benefit to you, the customer, is that you can contract with confidence. The bids you receive are based solely on the information you provide. This means that the companies submitting bids want your business and are willing to compete to get it.

Q. Who is eligible to participate?

Anyone in need of plumbing-related assistance is eligible to use YPTP. You must be 18 or older to contract with a YPTP plumber.

Q. Is there a limit to how many quote requests I can submit?

No. You can use YPTP as often as you need to. However, once you have submitted a specific quote request you cannot submit another quote request for that same project unless you

  1. Fail to receive an acceptable bid the first time you submit it.
  2. Change the parameters of the job and want to re-bid it.

Q. How do I contract with the plumber through YPTP?

 YPTP is a plumber referral service. We bring plumbers and customers together online. When you accept a plumber''s bid you contract directly with the plumber and you pay them directly for their services.

Q. Who pays for the referral through YPTP?

The plumber whose bid you accept pays YPTP a referral fee for being matched with you. As the customer, you never pay to use YPTP''s service.

Q. What if the selected plumber says I need more work than was quoted?

All bids are based solely on the information provided by the customer. If you select a plumber based on that information, your contract is to fulfill that work at the price quoted.

If you agree with the additional work your plumber suggests be performed, you may choose to renegotiate the job directly with the plumber. Or, if you prefer, you may submit an additional quote request through YPTP, in which case you may select that same plumber or a different plumber for that work.

Q. Is there an advantage to continuing to use YPTP?

Yes. Even if you find a plumber you like through YPTP, you may not always get the best price from them. Bidding jobs through YPTP keeps the bidding process ''honest'' and ensures that you get the best possible price.

Q. What recourse do I have if a plumber does not fulfill their contract?

YPTP definitely wants to hear about any problems or concerns you encounter with our plumber partners. In addition to rating your plumber experience, you can contact YPTP directly with any complaints. If we receive multiple complaints about a plumber we will suspend their membership.
In addition, since we require all of our plumber partners to be licensed and bonded, you can file a complaint with your state''s contractors licensing agency.

Q. Can my membership be terminated or suspended?

There is no contract term with YPTP. You can utilize our service as often as you need to. The only reason YPTP would suspend a customer's membership is if we received numerous complaints from an existing registered plumbers.

Q. What if I want to cancel my membership?

We certainly hope that never occurs, but if you do need to remove yourself from the YPTP database, simply go into your account profile and delete the information.


Disposal FAQs

Q. My garbage disposal won't turn or make a sound.

This means the motor is being obstructed by something  and or the reset button needs to be reset.

Q. I want to install a different size garbage disposal. Will i need to change my piping?

Yes. garbage disposals vary in sizing so talk with your plumber to see what unit would best fit your need.

Q. I have water coming out of "this thing on top of my sink" when the dishwasher is draining, why?

On top of your sink the unit where water is running out of is called an "air gap". This is usually due to a clog in the hose from the air gap to the garbage disposal.

Q. When I flush the toilet water is coming up in my shower/tub, what does this mean?

Your main sewer system is clogged and needs to be snaked out.

Q. My toilet is making a gurgling sound and wont flush, what does this mean?

Usually gurgling in the toilet is a indication that your sewer system is backed up . When flushing the toilet if water is coming up in the shower or tub your sewer is clogged and needs to be snaked out.

Q. When I wash clothes I see water coming up in the kitchen, what does this mean?

These two lines are usually connected to each other so when the drain is clogged  past both fixtures water has the tendency to back up . This can be resolved usually by snaking out washline

Q. I have sewage in my yard and nothing will flush around the house, what does this mean?

Typically your sewer system is backed up or clogged. Your sewer lines needs to snaked-out.

Q. My toilet will not flush and bowl fills up but everything else works, what does this mean?

This is typically something stuck in the trap of the toilet and needs to be snaked out .

Q. My Kitchen faucet seems to drip non stop, why?

This is typically a washer or cartridge issue. Washers need to be replace for a dual faucet or a cartridge for a single faucet.

Q. I have good pressure out of the cold side of my faucet but hot is weak, what can this be?

This is typically particles in your pipes obstructing the flow of water.

Q. Water is leaking from my shower head/tub spout, what do i do?

This typically means warn washers or a cartridge replacement. Washers are found on a multi-unit faucet and a cartridge is for a single unit.

As a fee-based referral service, YPTP charges you only when your bid is accepted by the customer. In other words, you don''t pay for exposure or the potential for business. You pay a set $25 referral fee when you actually win business through YPTP.

Q. How do I join You Pick the Plumber?

Signing up is easy! Go to the Plumber Signup page. Click on the I have read and accepted the Terms and Conditions button. Fill in your company information. You'll receive an email notification from us that you are officially enrolled as a member.

Q. Who is eligible to participate?

Any contractor that provides plumbing-related services can participate. However, you must be licensed and bonded in the state(s) you do business in. YPTP reserves the right to cancel your membership if your license lapses or expires.

Q. Is there a fee to advertise?

No. YPTP is strictly a referral site. We do not carry advertising. Listings on our site are free.

Q. Who pays for the referral?

The plumber pays for the referral. Once a customer accepts your bid, you will be charged a $25 referral fee.

Q. How do I pay the referral fee?

YPTP will send you an invoice vial email at the end of each week. The invoice covers all activity for the week. If you have one accepted bid during that week, your fee will be $25. If you have two accepted bids for the week, your fee will be $50, etc. YPTP accepts payment through our PayPal account. Payment is due within seven (7) days of invoicing. If you do not pay within seven (7) days your account is subject to suspension by YPTP and you will be charged a $50 reinstatement fee to continue receiving referrals through YPTP.

Q. Can I sign up to fulfill business in more than ten ZIP Codes?

The Plumber Signup form asks for your primary business ZIP code and allows you to select nine (9) additional ZIP Codes. If your geographic area is larger, you have the option to select more  ZIP Codes, up to a total of 15 additional.

Q. Does the customer contract with You Pick the Plumber or with me?

You contract directly with the customer once the customer accepts your bid.  The customer will be responsible for paying you directly once the services are rendered and complete.

Q. Are my bids visible to others online?

Yes, your bid is visible to the requesting customer, as well as other plumbers enrolled and the YPTP staff.

Q. Do I get charged a fee if I do more than one job for the same customer?

You will be charged a $25 fee for each referral that comes to you through YPTP. If a customer hires you for one job then posts another job with YPTP and picks you again, you will be charged an additional $25 for the second job because it came through YPTP.

Q. Besides being the low bidder, are there other ways to get customer business?

Yes. At the conclusion of each job, YPTP asks our  customers  to rate the plumber's service followed by reviews . Customer ratings and reviews  will appear on your plumber listing. Future customers can factor in ratings as well as price quotes in the evaluation of plumber candidates.

Q. What recourse do I have if a customer refuses to pay me?

Your contract is with the customer, so it is up to you to handle as you would any non-paying customer. YPTP does want to hear about any problems or concerns you encounter with customers.

Q. Can my membership be terminated or suspended?

There is no contract term with YPTP. Your membership is valid indefinitely as long as you remain in good standing. There are three reasons YPTP would suspend a plumber''s membership:

  1. If we receive three (3) customer complaints; 
  2. For non-payment if more than seven (7) days late. There will be a $50 reactivation fee to reactivate your membership; and/or
  3. Inactive license with the Contractor's State Licensing Board.

Q. What if I want to cancel my membership?

We certainly hope that never occurs, but if you do need to remove yourself from the YPTP database, simply go into your account profile and delete the information about your company.

Q. How do I get notified of bid opportunities?

On the Plumber Sign up form you indicate how you wish to be notified. Typically we send a text to your cell phone with the customers contact information . We send our plumbers emails with the customers  contact  information as a courtesy.


Toilet FAQs

Q. What should I do if I see water around the base of my  toilet bowl?

In most cases replacement of the  wax ring is required.

Q. My toilet doesn't flush as strong as it did, why?

This is a typical issue with your "jets" or something obstructing your " trap".

Q. My toilet tank keeps sweating and I don't know why

 Tank sweating is noticed in the winter due to cold temperatures outside . When cold water fills up in the tank and the house is at room temperature this will cause moisture / sweating.


Water Heater FAQs

Q. Why is my water heater making a knocking sound?

Poor maintenance  with old age cause knocking sounds . All boiler style water heaters should be flushed regularly every 4 to 6 months.

Q. Do I need a permit to have my water heater installed by a plumber?

Yes. In most cities or counties it's a requirement .Check with your local agency to see their guidelines.

Q. My water heater is leaking from the faucet at the bottom. What is this?

A leaking  bibb / faucet usually is a sign that the water heater is going out . Talk with your plumber to see  what they  recommend changing the bibb / faucet  or replacing the unit .

Q. My water heater pilot goes out, what is the problem?

This may be an issue with the thermocouple.

Q. Why isn't my water getting hot?

This is typically an issue with your thermostat or your thermocouple.

Q. I see rust color and particles in my hot water, what does this mean?

Seeing rust color or particles in your hot water are signs of the water heater needing to be flushed. Worse case scenario your water lines may need to be replaced.
